Grass on the Other Side always seems Greener.
--
Sometimes, anyhow, we get into a feeling that everyone around us has got better conditions and lifestyles than ours. While most of the time we just perceive ‘different’ as ‘better’. Even sometimes their worse conditions seem better to us.
Don’t know why, but we are so attuned to look for happiness in someone else’s conditions that we forget to count our own blessings. Grass on the other side always seems greener, while there could be two possibilities behind the greener grass:
First, it just seems greener, even if it isn’t, as said earlier ‘worse seems better’. I’ve a very basic example for this from my own life: earlier when I was in middle school, whenever I saw slum children running, playing and laughing in fields, on streets or anywhere, the first thought would come to my mind was like… ‘Wow, what a great life they are having! No studies, no school, no tests, no worries to get good grades, always enjoying, playing, etc.’. Even it was clearly known to me that they are really having a hard time in major aspects of life, but their foremost appearance as carefree children made me thought how unfortunate I was, missing all those enjoyments.
Actually, I was only seeing what it appears like and forgot to see the real scenario. Only the partial truth captured my mind and I used to feel like how confined my life was. And while chasing the illusion I forgot to count my blessings and became unable to see that in reality my life is far better than those slum children in almost all other aspects.
And most of us largely get into illusions like this, start chasing them and leave behind the opportunities to appreciate our own lives.
Second, maybe the grass on the other side is actually greener, i.e., the other farmer is in fact cultivating it better. It is what it seems, e.g., many successful people we hear about, doing great in their lives. They are indeed successful and have better conditions in many aspects. They have made their way to it. Anyone can make it there by working hard in the right direction.
However, sometimes it’s also the partial picture. Becoming successful is undeniably painful, because it requires discipline and that’s not easy. Furthermore, sustaining success and not getting overwhelmed by it needs much more of it. We generally don’t see that side of successes and just think only of its brighter side.
But whatever the case maybe, we aren’t supposed to feel inferior just because someone is having good time apparently. We should focus on ourselves, our lives and its betterment. Everyone has their own stories with good and bad times as well. At the end of the day everyone will end up living their own life.
No one’s life is completely full of either pros or cons. So, why don’t we see the positive aspects of our own lives. For sure there will be some hard times but there’s a lot of blessings to count too.
Stop wasting time in chasing illusions, complaining and finding faults in your circumstances. Life’s worth living, don’t get into an illusion of greener grass.
Life has a lot to offer you too, sometimes you might have to wait, but it only needs you to accept it.
Cultivate your farm it’s always fertile enough to grow much greener and more beautiful grass for you and you will be amazed by its beauty :).
